So tell me. Which are your favorite Great Expectations adaptations? I've really only watched the Jean Simmons/Anthony Hopkins one with any regularity. I do love the book (it was my first Dickens). And I'd be interested in falling in love with a film adaptation of it if you'd be so kind as to share your favorites. What do you think of this upcoming one due out next month?
It seems a long time ago now that I first read Shiver -- the first book in the Wolves of Mercy Falls trilogy. But looking back I started it on the plane ride to BEA and finished it there in the conference center, fingers gripping the cover tightly, while sitting on the floor in one of the many autograph lines. And now it's May again and BEA is right around the corner and I emerge from my recent and nasty reading slump stupor to find a copy of Linger sitting in my mailbox like a glove thrown down in the dirt. "I will be the one to pull you out," it whispers to me slyly. "Just open me up and take a sip. I promise--one sip is all it will take." And I look at it with fear and longing written all over my face. "You promise?" I ask intently. "Because it's been a long walk in the cold and I'm not sure I can take another disappointment." "Just open me up," it says, confidence written all over its cover. And so I do. And everythin
Yet another movie to see...and I still have to check out Romeo and Juliet!
ReplyDeleteI know! I haven't gotten out to see it yet either.
DeleteThis one looks awesome. It makes me want to read the book all over again (and I've read it twice already!) I'm not familiar with other adaptations, so no help there.
ReplyDeleteI agree. I love this story and I'm always curious to see which ending they use in new adaptations.
DeleteThis looks good. I watched part of the newish Masterpiece Great Expectations with Gillian Anderson as Miss Havisham. There were some really good bits and some not so good bits. I thought the stylization was pretty interesting. Pip was just so darn pretty. My friend Karen said he looked with Keira Knightley's twin sister.
ReplyDeleteI love the book, it was my first Dickens as well!! I CAN NOT WAIT to see this. I feel like I have been waiting for ages, I also haven't seen Much Ado or the new Romeo and Juliet. AHH OVERLOAD!!
