There She Goes

There she goes again. With her fantabulous, freaking book trailers. And I'm not even a fan of the format myself. I generally find them the height of cheese, though I realize I'm not likely the target audience. Still. If I'd never read her books or heard her name, I would want to read both Shiver and Ballad based on these awesomely beautiful trailers Maggie Stiefvater made herself. Wouldn't you? For a behind-the-scenes peek into the making of the Shiver trailer, go here . Amazing. Maggie also has contests going on to win both books. So be sure to check those out here .

A Couple of Stops

Reading and Ruminations is holding a fantastic Summer Reading Blitz giveaway , in which she's giving one lucky commenter the entire Ivy League series by Diana Peterfreund . You've heard me go on about this series and, now that the fourth and final one is out, this is a superb chance to get a hold of the whole lot and read them through without even having to blink an eye in between. At least, that's what I'd do...Go leave a comment and be entered in the contest . My friend Martha has a lovely post up on her favorite literary places . She's got some great golden, glowy places on her list, including the Murry's kitchen from A Wrinkle in Time , the Dancing Dove from Tamora Pierce 's Alanna books, and Mr. Tumnus' house from The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe . I love each of those places so much. When I think about the coziest literary places I love to return to again and again to curl up and just be with the characters, those always come to mind, alo...

A Letter from Laurie

Dear Friends, With a new book coming out and an ongoing celebration ( "Fifteen Weeks of Bees" ) in the Laurie R. King e-universe, I wanted to include ways to help Independent booksellers, libraries, and people to whom hardback novels are but a distant dream. Here's what I've come up with: Indies--A piece of art: Readers who buy a copy of The Language of Bees from an independent bookseller and send us their receipt will be entered into a drawing for a truly gorgeous piece of art: an original, limited edition letterpress broadside (value $125) of "A Venomous Death," a new, illustrated Laurie King short story featuring Mary Russell, Sherlock Holmes, and... bees. Libraries--A set of Russells: During National Library Week , we're collecting library love letters from their patrons. The winning letter gets a copy of the new book, The Language of Bees . At the same time, their library wins a complete set of hardback Russell and Holmes novels, beginning with T...

The countdown to  Ann Aguirre 's new Corine Solomon series is on.  Blue Diablo   is due out April 7th and I am very pleased to announce that as part of the celebrations Ms. Aguirre will be making a stop here at Angieville as part of her Virtual Tour! Make sure to stop by on March 30th to catch her guest blog. Here is the official blurb: Right now, I’m a redhead. I’ve been blonde and brunette as the situation requires, though an unscheduled color change usually means relocating in the middle of the night. So far, I’m doing well here. Nobody knows what I’m running from. And I’d like to keep it that way… Eighteen months ago, Corine Solomon crossed the border to Mexico City, fleeing her past, her lover, and her “gift”. Corine, a handler, can touch something and know its history—and sometimes, its future. Using her ability, she can find the missing—and that’s why people never stop trying to find her. People like her ex, Chance… Chance, whose uncanny luck has led him to her doorstep, nee...
