Atmospheric Pretties

Aren't these three just sort of striking and atmospheric?

First up, Scott Westerfeld's Leviathan is due out October 6th. As you can tell by the awesome cover, it's all kinds of steampunk and is the first in a new series. Yay!

Longtime favorite of mine Sharon Shinn has a new YA out also in October, the 15th to be exact. Gateway is about an adopted Chinese girl and is set in an alternate St. Louis modeled after 19th century China.

Ever since getting lost in The Historian, I've been wondering what Elizabeth Kostova would write next. The Swan Thieves is due out the same day as Leviathan and follows a solitary psychiatrist treating a tormented artist. I'll take it.

  2. So Pretty. It seems to me the covers are getting better. Or we ignore the ugly ones... i'm not sure.

  3. Ooo! I want all of them! I've been waiting on Kostova's next one, and it looks like it's going to be another chunkster (which is good!) Fantastic covers on all three.

  4. I love that Sharon Shinn cover! And very cool blurb.

I've been meaning to try Scott Westerfeld's books for ages. Interesting how steampunk is starting to appear everywhere.

  7. These covers are awesome. I'm excited about Kostova's novel too, so thanks for the FYI on that one. I'll have to go out and put it in my cart so I'll be ready!

The covers are great! Thanks for sharing them. I haven't read anything by Westerfeld, Shinn or Kostova though I own The Historian and two of Sharon Shinn's adult fantasy novels.

Amy, Elizabeth Kostova is signing at BEA Friday afternoon.

Angie, I bought a copy of Resenting the Hero over the weekend. I can't wait to read it.

  13. They really are a fine lot, aren't they? And they looked so well together...

Liza, I think covers in general are definitely getting more bad-a**. I definitely covet more of them than I used to. ;)

Li, steampunk definitely seems to be on the rise lately. After reading CLOCKWORK HEART, I'm really looking forward to more.

Amy, THE SWAN THIEVES was supposed to be there with Kostova signing and then it just....didn't happen. Strange. I picked up LEVIATHAN, but no sign of Shinn. I would have loved to have met her.

LauraJ, I usually tell people to start with ARCHANGEL or MYSTIC & RIDER by Shinn. Do you have either of those? Also, I am so extremely stoked you picked up RESENTING THE HERO. Definitely let me know what you think of it!

Diana, so did I. And thank you so much!

Mishel, you are most welcome. Stop by anytime!

Review | The Unselected Journals of Emma M. Lion, Vols. 1 & 2 by Beth Brower

I feel a bit giddy finally talking to you all about this series. If you'll remember, I fell madly in love with The Q  when it came out a few years ago. Now, Beth Brower is writing The Unselected Journals of Emma M. Lion — a series of novellas set in London in 1883. Each volume is an excerpt from the incorrigible Emma's journals, and the first two volumes are already available with the third on the way soon. I think they'd make rather perfect pandemic reading. Humorous and charming down to their bones, they're just what the doctor ordered to lift your spirits in this uncertain time that just proves to be too much some days. If you're experiencing one of those days, I suggest giving Volume 1   a go (it's only 99 cents on Kindle, $4.99 for a trade paperback copy). It will surprise exactly none of you that I own print and digital editions of both volumes.  Miss Emma M. Lion has waited long enough. Come hell or high water (and really, given her track record,  both a...
