We're looking at the beginning of next year here, but  I had to highlight these pretties I'd seen floating about in the ether lately. I've only read one of these authors before, and I adore her. The others are new to me and come with all the possibility inherent in an unknown quantity wrapped in a pretty package. This is Not a Test by Courtney Summers Courtney Summers does zombies. If that doesn't make the top of your head blow off, I don't know what will. I cannot wait to read her take on them, especially as her main character is a girl with a death wish. Normally, I'm not a fan of covers where the girl's head is missing or cut off or covered, but what with the zombies and the blood splatter--I'm kind of okay with it. Due out June. I like the way these three play with your notion of perspective. From the back of the first girl looking forward into the snowy streets, to the second one looking down almost hopelessly with pictures of moments hanging above her, to the third one looking back over her shoulder at who knows what she's left behind back in "normal." They're all three lovely in both title and cover and I am eager to get my hands on them. Her and Me and You by Lauren Strasnick I'll just go ahead and say that this is my favorite of the three covers. I just looks like a street I used to live on and that, combined with the light blue glow of the umbrella, and the wonderful title and I want it on my shelf. The insides sound quite complicated and not a bit daunting. Alex's parents get divorced after her father's infidelity tears their marriage apart. The other day Trisha over at The YA YA YAs posted a review of Courtney Summers ' Some Girls Are that had me convinced I needed to get a hold of a copy as soon as possible. Trisha's reviews often have that effect on me. Especially when she starts off with lines like these: Courtney Summers ' debut novel Cracked Up to Be won a Cybils Award last month, and I think Some Girls Are is an even better book. First of all, for me there's nothing like the almost mystical lure of hearing that an author's second book is even better than her first. Especially when it's an author I've never read before. Second, having been involved with the awesome Cybils Awards , I am always interested in reading books by Cybils winners. I'd never read anything by Summers, though I'd certainly heard of both her books, and so later that day I went out and bought a copy of Some Girls Are and started it--like I have so many others--in the parking lot outside the bookstore. ...
