Red & Black Pretties

Three (actually, four) authors I absolutely love. Three red and black covers to drool over. They all write and work in different ways and I am very much looking forward to their latest offerings. Will Grayson, Will Grayson by John Green & David Levithan Brought to you by the author of Looking for Alaska and An Abundance of Katherines and the author of Love is the Higher Law and co-author of Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist , Will Grayson, Will Grayson tells the story of two boys with that same name who are about to meet one night in Chicago. Told in alternating point of view chapters, this collaborative novel has been in the works for awhile. And with these two authors at the helm there are two things guaranteed: I'm going to laugh and I'm going to care about these characters. Absolutely cannot wait to read it. Due out April 6th. White Cat by Holly Black Ever since I closed Ironside , I have been impatiently waiting for Holly Black 's next Big Thing and Whi...

Bad to the Bone by Jeri Smith-Ready

Reading  Wicked Game   was definitely  a highlight  of my summer reading last year. It easily made my  Best of 2008 list  and I've been looking forward to the sequel ever since. Fortunately, the ever awesome  Jeri Smith-Ready  took pity on me and hooked me up with an ARC of  Bad to the Bone , which is due out May 19th. And let me tell you--you want to get a hold of this book. And if you haven't read  Wicked Game   yet, now's the perfect time to do so as the  mass market edition  was just released! That way you'll be primed and ready for this rockin' sequel. Ciara's life has changed just a little bit since she first came to WVMP as a part-time marketing intern. She is now, for all intents and purposes, the station owner. What that means is she is on the clock 24/7 taking care of her little flock of vampire DJs, spinning PR as the vamps spin the tunes that are their lifeblood. She's working towards her degree, taking night classes at the local community colleg...

Bad to the Bone Cover

Check out Jeri Smith-Ready's blog . Looks like Ciara leaked the cover of her upcoming book, Bad to the Bone , on her Twitter profile . Scamp. That's a big dog, btw.  Wicked Game was so great , I can't wait to continue the fun come May 16th!

Wicked Game by Jeri Smith-Ready

I first discovered Jeri Smith-Ready through her highly unique urban fantasy Requiem for the Devil . A sort of sequel to Paradise Lost told from Lucifer's point of view, I thought it was beautiful, disturbing and, in the end, unexpectedly hopeful. When I heard she was writing an urban fantasy about vampire DJs and a female lead who is a con artist, I was eager to get my hands on it. It took forever for my local store to get it in, but when if finally did I snatched it up immediately. Wicked Game didn't disappoint in the least. In fact, it had me laughing out loud several times. One of my favorite passages: Finally I find what I'm looking for, behind an unopened container of fennel seed. I climb off the counter, clutching the little plastic jar. "Be right back," I tell Lori as I blur past her. In my room I shut the door and advance on Shane, who's sitting among the CDs again. "Get out!" I twist off the red cap and hurl the contents of the jar at him...

A Month of Reading: August

Best reads of the past month: Requiem for the Devil by Jeri Smith-Ready This one hurt. Of course, I knew it was a sequel to Paradise Lost going in, so I don't really have grounds to complain. It's in turns beautiful, dark, and thoughtful. And I knew how it was going to end from page one. But it still hurt. Size 12 is Not Fat by Meg Cabot Okay, I think I've burned my way through all of her adult works currently in print. This one's a mystery and the first written in traditional format. Grab yourself a DoveBar and nestle in. Just in Case by Meg Rosoff Proof in print that How I Live Now was no fluke. Holy crow, this book is good. Rosoff's books are always painful, but this one is painful on an existential level. Think The Stranger meets Great Expectations . Keep 'em coming, Ms. Rosoff. Keep 'em coming. New Moon by Stephenie Meyer What to say? It was wonderful . It was awful . As good as its predecessor, but Very Different. A word to the wise: if you thought...
