Rachel Vincent just revealed the cover for Alpha --the sixth and final book in the wild ride that has been her werecat Shifters series . Personally, I think it's the best of the lot. Each cover has been fun in its way, but this one is just sort of awesome. Faythe looks in charge . Love the hair, love the tights, love the grip, love the fact that she's sitting in the chair! All kinds of subtext going on there. I've enjoyed this series from book one and I've loved watching Faythe grow and progress as a character. The fifth book,  Shift , is sitting on top of my stack right now just waiting for me to crack it open and I'm so very glad Alpha will be coming out this fall so we won't have to wait too long for the concluding volume.

You've got to hand it to  Rachel Vincent . She can churn out a page-turner like nobody's business. And, really, with the way she tends to end each novel on a spectacular cliffhanger, I appreciate how close together  Mira  has released the last two. Installment number five,  Shift , is due out in just one month and so I'm particularly glad I waited awhile to read  Prey   as the end of this one left me even more bereft than the last. A feat I didn't think was actually possible considering the consequences surrounding that ending. I had heard rumors of darkness swirling their way through the internets in regards to this volume and that probably contributed a little bit to my rather unusual willingness to wait as I was afraid of who would be hurt this time and by whom. Faythe is counting down the hours. Since one of the conditions of her acquittal was Marc's banishment to the neutral territory, she's been on pins and needles worrying about his safety, relying ...

A few dangerously enticing upcoming pretties for your viewing pleasure today. Debut author Lisa Mangum has The Hourglass Door coming out May 13th. Scooper has a lovely early review of it here . Sounds promising! Diana Peterfreund is not kidding us with the latest cover of Rampant -- due out August 25th. This is the final version and definitely my favorite. Seriously cannot wait for this baby. Rachel Vincent is breaking into YA with the first in her new Soul Screamers series-- My Soul to Take , which is due out August 1st. It's got banshees. I'm just sayin'.

So it really seems like I just read  Stray . I can't believe it's been almost a year since  Rogue   came out and that this is the third Werecat book. But, having finished  Pride ,  I can honestly say that this series has gotten better with each book and this is my favorite one so far. The good news is that the wait for the fourth book, Prey , will be much less than a year. It's due out July 1st and I will definitely be picking it up.  Rachel Vincent  has a tendency to end each volume not necessarily on a cliffhanger, but certainly at a point at which you are definitely opposed to stopping!  Pride   was officially released on February 1st and until the 4th Rachel is hosting a  Pride  release contest . Faythe Sanders is back in Rogue , Rachel Vincent 's sophomore offering and follow-up to her debut novel Stray . DH was the one who came across Stray and recommended it to me. We both enjoyed it and were looking forward to reading the sequel. Vincent has a contract for six total Werecat books and so there is plenty of time for character and world development. Which is a good thing because, while Faythe doesn't bother me as much as she seems to bother other readers, she definitely has some hurdles to tackle in the way of maturity, particularly when it comes to relationships. I do find myself sympathizing rather more than is my norm with the various men in her life, be they father, brothers, or boyfriends. At the same time, I'm also willing to cut her a fair bit of slack given her status as one of only a handful of female werecats, the only daughter of a domineering alpha, and the recipient of about ten times her fair share of male ego. I guess I just understand her longing f...

Best reads of the past month: The Sharing Knife: Legacy by Lois McMaster Bujold I was really looking forward to this sequel and was happily anxious to hear it picked up right where Beguilement left off. Unfortunately, it didn't quite live up to my expectations. The problem was simple--nothing ever happened. They traveled here. They were ostracized there. Dag went to fight malices over here. Fawn sat around trying to blend in over there. There was none of that exquisite tension that propelled the first book forward. The two main characters seemed so tired and, well, apathetic about the whole thing that I couldn't help but feel the same. The thing is, the writing is so good. And the characters are as well. They just weren't present this time around and I missed them. It felt like the Spark and Dag I loved were being impersonated by slightly lackluster simulacra. But. The ending did leave me with the distinct feeling that the real deal would be back in the next installment ...
