Book Blogger Appreciation Week

Amazingly, it's getting on that time of year again. Book Blogger Appreciation Week 2010 will be held September 13th-17th. I had a very fun time last year participating in the week full of events, getting to know new (to me) bloggers, and enjoying the general merriment. This year everyone is invited to register their blogs for the week and, as part of registering, bloggers can self-nominate for any awards categories for which they feel their blog is a good fit. You can, of course, opt-out of the awards portion if you would like. In order to nominate, bloggers are instructed to post the links to five posts that best represent their blogs in the categories they are entering. So here are my posts for consideration in Best Young Adult Book Blog:

Review of The Demon's Covenant by Sarah Rees Brennan
Retro Friday Review of The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton
Review of Some Girls Are by Courtney Summers
Retro Friday Review of A Certain Slant of Light by Laura Whitcomb
The Parents of YA

and Best Written Book Blog:

Review of Linger by Maggie Stiefvater
Review of The Sky is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson
Review of This Gorgeous Game by Donna Freitas
Unexpected Moments
Stubborn Girls (and Why I Love Them)

That's it for now. I hope you all go register and take part. It's sure to be an excellent week!

  4. *grin* Thanks, you guys! I was pretty uncomfortable with the whole self-nomination process. I mean, I understand where they're coming from with transparency, etc. But, still... :)

Triple Prize Pack Giveaway!

Not long ago I discovered a few of you tweeting to get me to the 300 follower mark. As little things I read on Twitter often do, that one sort of made my day. You're all really too sweet for words and I joked that perhaps it was time for a giveaway. The truth is I've been in the mood to have one for awhile now and this is as good a time as any. So here's the deal. This will be a triple prize pack giveaway , meaning there are three packs and you can indicate which one you'd like to be entered to win in the comments. I will choose three random winners and contact them. This giveaway is open to anywhere The Book Depository ships! Here's the list of countries , FYI. Since I tend to read a lot of urban fantasy, straight fantasy, and young adult, I've chosen a set of each including all books currently in print in that series. Interview with Alexandra Bracken + Brightly Woven Giveaway!

I fell in love with the cover of Alexandra Bracken 's debut novel-- Brightly Woven --last fall and the scant synopses I could find at the time certainly piqued my interest. After managing to get my hands on an ARC, I found myself surprised and pleased with this unique fantasy. You can read my review here . As the release date approached, I invited Alex to participate in an interview and giveaway here on the site and, despite her crazy busy schedule, she kindly accepted. Enjoy! First things first: When did the idea for Brightly Woven first hit you and what (if anything) did you know right off the bat? I remember the exact moment it hit me—what I was doing, who I was talking to, what song was playing on iTunes.  :)  I had just come back from Winter Break my sophomore year in college and was sitting on my bed chatting with my mom.  Sophomore year was pretty remarkable in terms of the insane weather that we had in Virginia (where I was in school) but it had also been a bizarre year in
