The Scorpio Races Cover

And here is the U.S. cover for Maggie Stiefvater's upcoming standalone novel The Scorpio Races. Due out October 18th, precious few details are floating around about this one. But I am certainly intrigued. So far my favorite "official" words (of the like 20 there are being used to describe it) are: pair, race, and cliff. Of course, Maggie's are pretty good, too: blood, beaches, and kissing. I kind of like that we're not being inundated with info on this one. Makes for a refreshing change of pace. And I'm digging that pretty cover. So, I'm thinking I'll definitely be checking it out just as soon as I can.

  2. I agree that it's nice they're not telling us EVERYTHING about this book, but just a tiny bit of info would be nice. It's hard to be excited about something when I know absolutely nothing about it.

I feel like I'm the only one who's read this already... if you are a fan of Maggie, she wrote this as a short story and it was included in the Merry Sisters of Fate Anthology that was published a couple of years ago. It might spoil some things about the story but if you can't wait for the fall, you can get a head start.

Linger by Maggie Stiefvater, Review + Giveaway!

It seems a long time ago now that I first read Shiver -- the first book in the Wolves of Mercy Falls trilogy. But looking back I started it on the plane ride to BEA and finished it there in the conference center, fingers gripping the cover tightly, while sitting on the floor in one of the many autograph lines. And now it's May again and BEA is right around the corner and I emerge from my recent and nasty reading slump stupor to find a copy of Linger sitting in my mailbox like a glove thrown down in the dirt. "I will be the one to pull you out," it whispers to me slyly. "Just open me up and take a sip. I promise--one sip is all it will take." And I look at it with fear and longing written all over my face. "You promise?" I ask  intently. "Because it's been a long walk in the cold and I'm not sure I can take another disappointment." "Just open me up," it says, confidence written all over its cover. And so I do. And everythin...

Interview with April Lindner + Jane Giveaway!

I'm very excited about today's interviewee. As you know, I had been looking forward to the publication of Jane for months when a review copy happened in my lap and I let out a gasp of joy. Being a modernized retelling of Jane Eyre with a rock star-ized Mr. Rochester named Nico and a cover that hits every last one of my aesthetic buttons, it was sort of made to order for this reader. Needless to say, it more than lived up to my not inconsiderable expectations and I have been recommending it on a pretty much daily basis to family, friends, co-workers, neighbors . . . you get the picture. It's now just under a month until the book is out and, in anticipation of the release, I invited  April Lindner over to dish about all things Jane. She kindly accepted. Please welcome April! First things first: The Cover. I am in deep smit with that cover. Did you have any input and what was your reaction upon seeing it for the first time? I adore the cover too, and was blown away the...

Close Kin by Clare B. Dunkle

Close Kin   is the second book in  Clare B. Dunkle 's Hollow Kingdom trilogy. It takes place around five years after  The Hollow Kingdom   and follows Kate's younger sister Emily. Or at least it seems to. Where  The Hollow Kingdom   stuck pretty closely to Kate's story,  Close Kin   jumps around a fair bit, splitting its time three different ways as it traces the paths of Emily, her friend and would-be suitor Seylin, and an extremely unhappy elf named Sable.  When Emily fails to take Seylin's romantic advances seriously, half goblin/half elf Seylin informs the Goblin King he is leaving to search out his other heritage and see if he can find any elves who managed to survive the last goblin harrowing. He does, in fact, come across a rather feral group of elves but, having suffered much in the name of mere survival, they are barely recognizable as the beautiful, carefree creatures Seylin dreamt of. Among this group is a young woman named Sable who, to avoid being forced in...
