Stepback Art Reveal | Scarlet by Marissa Meyer

Now this one is truly exciting. I'm excited today to be part of the stepback art reveal for the brand new paperback release of Scarlet by  Marissa Meyer ! Given my choice, I knew I had to pick Scarlet & Wolf's book, as it is easily my favorite novel in the  Lunar Chronicles . And let me tell you, Macmillan has done such a fabulous job with these new covers . Happily, all four paperbacks release on February 4th, and I can't wait to get my copies. I can see Aaron's expression now. But honestly, at this point he's made his peace with my multiple-edition collecting habits. As he told me today, he knew what I was when he picked me up. Likewise, love. And here is the stepback (which just happens to depict one of my favorite scenes in the book): She did not know that the wolf was a wicked sort of animal, and she was not afraid of him. And in case you haven't seen them yet, here are the four new covers:  Aren't they gorgeous? Have you read this s...

Illustrated Pretties

I can't resist with these three. I love a good illustrated cover so much, and these three are not only just beautiful but include a couple of delicious retellings, a debut novel, and at least three young women who sound as fierce and determined and real as I could hope for on this International Women's Day. Put them on your calendars. I'm feeling the good feelings. The Guinevere Deception   by  Kiersten White This cover, you guys.  This cover . . .  I love it so much. And I haven't read a good Arthurian retelling in far too long. In this version, Guinevere is not at all what she seems. Summoned by Merlin to keep Arthur safe, she is a changeling who gives everything up to protect Camelot. GOOD YES GOOD. Due out November 5th Wicked Fox   by  Kat Cho Set in modern day Seoul, this debut features a young woman who is actually an ancient being that must devour the souls of men in order to survive. Matters are significantly complicated when she saves a y...

All the Little Bones Cover

Have you heard? Ellie Marney has a brand new series on its way, and she revealed the cover for the first book, All the Little Bones , just the other day. Isn't it a beauty? I absolutely love it. This is the first book in Marney's new Circus Hearts series, which is described as dark YA romantic mystery. Otherwise known as music to my ears as it's coming from the woman who gave us Every Breath   and No Limits . This first book follows a teenage trapeze artist and an apprentice strongman on the run from the law, and I can hardly contain my excitement. All the Little Bones is due out September 1st and will go live for pre-order August 21st.

Sherwood Cover

Um. Hi. Hi, there. Did you, by chance, hear that Meagan Spooner is doing a Robin Hood retelling and that this is its cover?! I had to take a few deep breaths to let my heart slow down before I could even string words together. After the note-perfectness that was Hunted last year, I struggle to contain my glee at the thought of what we have in store when she turns her hand to Robin Hood. As you know, I have feelings and opinions when it comes to this tale. And exactly none of them are mild. You likely know the usual suspects that make up my beloved versions. So try, if you will, to approximate the expression on my face when I read this will be a gender-bent take, in which Marian dons the hood, in which the first line of the blurb is "Robin of Locksley is dead." I feel like someone may need to start giving me oxygen at any moment. Certainly, long before this Sherwood  is out March 19, 2019. Challenge accepted, Ms. Spooner. Take my money.

Bridge of Clay Cover

Oh my word. I can't quite believe it's here and happening this year! Markus Zusak's new novel Bridge of Clay will be published October 9th. This is not a drill. Here is the announcement in Publisher's Weekly. I love that he says, "Every book we write means something to us, but sometimes it comes to mean everything." It's been 13 years, you guys. Thirteen years since The Book Thief . I've longed for this next book for so long, but I don't feel any resentment at all that it took how long it did. I trust the author implicitly. Zusak (like Megan Whalen Turner ) can take precisely how long he needs, and I (like Ronan) will be right here, waiting for him to tell me where to go. I am so looking forward to meeting the five Dunbar brothers and joining them in their story. How about you? Will you be buying your copy on release day? Or will you wait for the initial reviews to come out (or your library hold to come in) before diving in?

Restore Me Excerpt + Thoughts

So we haven't talked about the three new Shatter Me books that we are getting from the lovely Tahereh Mafi yet, have we? I've been remiss. I know. I mean, I'm pretty sure you could have guessed that I'm positively delighted by the prospect. I was one of the ones happy with how and where she left things in  Ignite Me . I know others were not. Which is why I think it's no small task Ms. Mafi has set herself in returning to this world and picking up the threads of her tale. But I'm along for the ride. That was never really even a question. The first book is titled Restore Me and is due out next month! The sixth, to be exact. I do love this whiteout version of the set of covers we've got going for the series. Actually, it might be my favorite cover thus far. But my question for you today is have you read the first four chapters excerpt they released yet? I wasn't planning on it, opting to just sort of ride out my gentle anticipation until release day....

Cover Reveal | Bring Me Their Hearts by Sara Wolf

Happy Monday, gentle readers. Today, I'm pleased to be participating in the official cover reveal for Sara Wolf 's upcoming Bring Me Their Hearts , due out June 5th from Entangled Publishing . I've not read any of Ms. Wolf's books yet, but I'm pretty excited to start with this one. Just excellent title aside, immortal soldier trying to steal a prince's heart to win back her own from the evil witch who stole it and put it in a jar? Sign me up. Also, I want her dress. Without further ado: ABOUT THE BOOK In a new series Publishers Weekly has listed as “one of the most anticipated YA's of 2018”, we're excited to share the cover for Bring Me Their Hearts ! NYT bestselling author Sara Wolf delivers a fast-paced, gritty fantasy sure to thrill fans of Holly Black, Sabba Tahir, and Sarah J. Maas. Zera is a Heartless—the immortal, unaging soldier of a witch. Bound to the witch Nightsinger ever since she saved her from the bandits who murdered her fam...

The Hollow of Fear Cover

Because this series is unquestionably one of the very best I'm following these days, here is the cover for the third book in Sherry Thomas ' excellent Lady Sherlock series— The Hollow of Fear . A moment of shivers for that title, yes? But also. I have it on good authority that a couple of key aspects of this series are going to pick up some steam in this installment. And since the second book,  A Conspiracy in Belgravia , was arguably the best sequel I read last year, I am beside myself with excitement. Can you handle it? The Hollow of Fear is due out October 2nd.

Black & Gold Pretties

It has been far too long since I pulled together a Pretties post. Far too long. I continue to meticulously monitor my ongoing list of upcoming books, never fear. I just haven't been actively talking about them as much lately. But. These three. These three finally all have covers and are out there on the not-too-distant/somewhat distant horizon. Moreover, they absolutely merit some chatter. The Last Namsara by Kristen Ciccarelli Okay, look. This debut is being touted as "perfect for fans of Robin McKinley, Kristin Cashore, and Sarah J. Maas" . . . soooooo . . . basically . . . I VOLUNTEER AS TRIBUTE. This is also within reach as it is due out in just over a month. I am so very excited. She's a dragon-slayer, guys. My Aerin Dragon-Killer loving heart is beating overtime. Due out October 3rd Circe by Madeline Miller I feel certain you all remember my exquisite meltdown over the beautifulness that is The Song of Achilles . Well, she finally has another book co...

A Conspiracy in Belgravia Cover

September 5th feels a long way off yet, but I was so delighted to get a peek today at the beautiful cover for Sherry Thomas ' second Lady Sherlock novel— A Conspiracy in Belgravia . You know how much I enjoyed A Study in Scarlet Women , so I'm sure you won't be surprised when I say that the moment I read that this second installment involves one Lady Ingram, my mind fairly exploded with anxiety and anticipation. I just . . . how will it ever work out ? I ask you! If you're suffering in similar anticipation, feel free to share. I'll just be sitting here fretting.

Carry On Paperback Cover

I don't know about you, but I needed something excellent to lift my spirits. A huge thanks to St. Martin's and Buzzfeed for giving us the upcoming paperback cover of Rainbow Rowell's Carry On . The cover art is by none other than the incredible Kevin Wada . I mean, I purchased two copies of Leigh Bardugo's Crooked Kingdom  just so I could get the one with his gorgeous illustrations inside the jacket. He captured Kaz and the gang so perfectly, I had to have them. And I think he's captured Simon and Baz so well here. Due out May 9th, it will make the perfect lender copy. I'm thinking it's time for a reread . . . "You have to pretend you get an endgame. You have to carry on like you will; otherwise, you can't carry on at all."

Thick as Thieves + New Queen's Thief Covers

I'm sure by now you've heard the amazing news that we have not only a release date, but a title and cover as well for the incomparable Megan Whalen Turner 's fifth Queen's Thief book— Thick as Thieves . It's due out in hardcover May 16th of next year. So definitely what feels like a ways off yet, but it's been six years , people. This is huge progress from where we fans have been. And, if you trot on over to the description on Goodreads, you'll note that our new POV character is none other than Kamet (!), which thing filleth me with joy. I can say that having worked through my initial emotions at coming to The King of Attolia and finding out the narrator was some unknown by the name of Costis and, of course, subsequently recognizing the error of my ways. Costis, I love you! Kamet, I am  one hundred percent ready for your adventure! So. As for my feelings. We're back to a version of the word thief in the title, and I really love that. And they...

Foreign Edition Pretties

Today's pretties post comes to you courtesy of three foreign editions I've been lusting over. But seriously, why can these not be available in my country. Or, you know, my language? And, yes, I'm aware of what a first world problem I'm dealing with here. Not enough pretty editions at your beck and call, Ms. Thompson? I do know. But the book collector in me just started vibrating with longing when I ran across these lovely editions. You've all seen my battered and beloved copy of Daughter of the Forest . I feel like you feel me when I see this completely different and beautiful monochromatic UK version and know that it has to be mine. I always need a lender copy! Particularly as my original hardback is no longer capable of limping out the door, what with the loose pages and the limp tape some obliging borrower stuck in for good measure. As for the Italian edition of Cath Crowley 's Graffiti Moon , all I can say is this is the cover I'd been waiting for...

Come Hither Pretties

You guys, I'm just avidly excited about these three upcoming pretties. I need them now and I will not have them until October (in two cases) and next April in the other. Alas. Alack. Until then, I shall have to content myself with the odd gaze at these instances of the benevolence of the Cover Gods. A Study in Scarlet Women by Sherry Thomas As you know. I love Sherry Thomas. Historicals, YA fantasy, you name it, she can do it. This time she's turning her hand to a gender-swapped Sherlock Holmes retelling. Charlotte Holmes takes the name of Sherlock Holmes in order to solve the mystery behind a trio of murders that have cast suspicion upon her sister and father. Say no more. Due out October 18th Spare and Found Parts by Sarah Maria Griffin I'm sorry, but this cover, you guys. It's like my heart grew ten sizes the day I saw it. It is utterly perfect for a book about one lonely girl who has a heart that ticks and builds a robot companion. Set in a dystopian/ste...

White, Bright Pretties

Just in time for summer, these bright, white and colorful pretties are calling my name. I've read and loved books by two of these three authors. The other is new to me. I just want to hold them in my hands and devour their words as I'm lounging next to the pool or out for an evening drive with Aaron on one of these perfect summer nights. The Sun is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon I truly enjoyed Ms. Yoon's debut novel Everything, Everything , and I'm utterly delighted we'll be getting another novel from her this year. When it comes to YA romance, she has such a lovely touch. This new novel features a young woman who is a scientist and whose family is on the verge of being deported. It also features a young man who . . . well, you can guess. I can't wait. Due out November 1st A Song to Take the World Apart by Zan Romanoff A debut novel with one of the best titles I've heard in a long while. This is being recommended for fans of Jandy Nelson's I...

Choose Your Own Edition: O Pioneers!

On the heels of my search for the perfect The   Tenant of Wildfell Hall , I bring you my longtime search for the perfect O Pioneers! This book. This book is my very favorite Willa Cather. And that is saying something, as I consider her to be the actual Great American Novelist. I am so very grateful we made our way around to her in my tenth grade American literature class. I was so, so ready for a woman author and stories that felt like they represented the land I knew and loved, even if they hailed from time periods and life experiences entirely separate from my own. To this day, I count the first time I read O Pioneers! as one of the highlights of my life. I currently own a somewhat battered mass market copy (I believe it's a Signet Classic) with rows and rows of hay bales on it. Which is fine. But it doesn't sing the way the cover of this beautiful book should. And so I bring you the three editions I like best and ask your humble opinion. For a long time, I've lea...

Veronica Speedwell Pretties

I'm sorry, but these brand spanking new Veronica Speedwell covers are divine, and that's all there is to it. I mean, the hardback cover of A Curious Beginning wasn't too shabby at all (the dress . . . the fog . . . ), but these ones have my heart. The silhouettes. The butterflies. The font . The problem, of course, is an old one and one that has plagued dedicated book collectors like myself for what seems like time immemorial. This new A Curious Beginning cover belongs to the paperback edition (due out July 12), while the matching cover for A Perilous Undertaking (the second book in the series) will be hardcover (due out September or thereabouts). Naturally, I own the hardcover copy of the first book. Sigh . Why? Why must my series be unmatched? All covers are not created equal, and I want these two gorgeous matched pretties on my shelf. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of lender copies, and my husband will assure you I have zero problem throwing down for ...

Crooked Kingdom Cover

I am placing this here because I cannot tell you how excited I am for its release. And because if you haven't read Six of Crows yet, now is nothing if not the time. September 22nd is still a distressingly long way off. But this cover, you guys. This Crooked Kingdom . Will the pages be edged in black like its companion? Or will they be blood red?  Kaz. Inej . Tell me it's gonna be all right.

Choose Your Own Edition: The Tenant of Wildfell Hall

I've mentioned before that I wrote my masters thesis on The Tenant of Wildfell Hall . What that means is this book is extremely dear to me. I first read it while on study abroad in London, and I fell madly in love with Anne's fierce introduction to the second edition and with Helen Graham and the way she slammed her bedroom door—her heart too thoroughly dried to be broken in a hurry, absolutely determined to live as long as she could. I own a rather limp Wordsworth Classics edition that I believe I picked up for a pound in a charity bookshop. It will always be my first. But I admit to having been on the lookout for a lovelier one for some time now. Which brings us to these three pretties. All available in fairly affordable copies from The Book Depository . Each eye-catching in its own way. I have to say, it will be difficult for me to resist the overturned glass of wine for the chills is sends down my spine (not the good ones, but if you've read the book you know ...

Typographical Pretties

First pretties post of the year is here! And just look at these elegant covers. I can hardly wait to get my hands on them. These three hail from two debut authors and one who is on her third novel, and I just have to hand it to their cover designers. That seal on The Queen's Gambit . . . that dripping ink on Traitor Angels . . . the stuff authorial dreams are made of, I'd wager. The Queen's Gambit by Beth Brower A young queen determined to protect her homeland. A mysterious traveler with a violent past. They strike an uneasy bargain, but at what cost to them both? I'm just going to go ahead and say that Beth is my dear friend (of the library painting fame) and that I had the opportunity to read a draft of this novel and that you do not want to miss it. Due out January 19th Ever the Hunted by Erin Summerill Britta Flannery is a wanted woman. In exchange for her freedom after being caught poaching, she is to hunt down her father's killer. Of course, ther...
