Fire won the Cybils!! And, uh, several other extremely wonderful books and you should go check out the list of winners posted yesterday if you haven't yet. I served on the YA Fantasy & Science Fiction panel and pulled really hard for Fire. I'm so happy to see such a gorgeous book win such an awesome award. Congrats, Ms. Cashore and a big round of applause for the other nominated titles and authors, the hard-working panelists, judges, and organizers!
It seems a long time ago now that I first read Shiver -- the first book in the Wolves of Mercy Falls trilogy. But looking back I started it on the plane ride to BEA and finished it there in the conference center, fingers gripping the cover tightly, while sitting on the floor in one of the many autograph lines. And now it's May again and BEA is right around the corner and I emerge from my recent and nasty reading slump stupor to find a copy of Linger sitting in my mailbox like a glove thrown down in the dirt. "I will be the one to pull you out," it whispers to me slyly. "Just open me up and take a sip. I promise--one sip is all it will take." And I look at it with fear and longing written all over my face. "You promise?" I ask intently. "Because it's been a long walk in the cold and I'm not sure I can take another disappointment." "Just open me up," it says, confidence written all over its cover. And so I do. And everythin
Yay, congrats Fire! I loved both Fire and Graceling. :)
ReplyDeleteChachic, aren't they just the most awesome companion novels ever? I cannot wait to find out what she's got in store for us with BITTERBLUE!
ReplyDeleteI still haven't been able to finishe this book! Remember how I said that the "Hero" books ruined me for a while? LOL. Maybe its time to pick "Fire" up again :)
ReplyDeleteI think it deserves it. :)
ReplyDeleteYAY! Well-deserved.
ReplyDeleteI know! I can't even decide what I like more between the two. I can't wait for Bitterblue too!
ReplyDeleteOh fantastic!! I'm so glad to hear this one got the honors.
ReplyDeleteI was so excited to see who'd won. I'm glad Fire won, but I loved almost all the books. So I wanted them all to win!
ReplyDeleteWell deserved!
ReplyDeleteElizabeth, lol! Sometimes it just takes you that way. I read FIRE at the perfect moment, but don't push it. Wait till you're feeling it and then see how the rest of it goes.
ReplyDeleteJanice, *nods* I thought you might.
Vanessa, *highfive*
Chachic, I wasn't expecting anything near the sheer awesome of FIRE after the greatness of GRACELING. My hat's off to her.
Michelle, I was really holding my breath. So pleased.
Sami, it was hard enough narrowing it down to those final few, wasn't it? From there it would have been really tough.
Liza, indeed.
