Retro Friday is a weekly meme hosted here at Angieville and focuses on reviewing books from the past. This can be an old favorite, an under-the-radar book you think deserves more attention, something woefully out-of-print, etc. Everyone is welcome to join in at any time! So this is a book I've spent a lot of time talking about. Chances are, if you've hung around these parts, you've heard me push it. But I actually read it for the first time way back in the olden days before the blog was, well, what it is now. I read it shortly after it was first published, back in 2007, when I was writing monthly posts, mere collections of mini-reviews. So Song of the Sparrow got shortchanged. I decided to address that situation today. The fun thing is lots of friends have read (and reviewed) it since, and so I was able to trip through their lovely thoughts and remember my own. When I heard about a retelling of Tennyson's " Lady of Shalott ," I was so in. I mean, I'...
That is such a good cover! Clean to look at, but also relevant and fun!
ReplyDeleteI LIKE it, but I still love the mass market with the shoe :) Nostalgia probably since I've read it so many times...I actually could use a new copy. I might have to indulge!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh! *love* I'm such a fan of minimal design and white backgrounds. I. Must. Have this. Thanks for posting.
ReplyDeleteI saw this when I was at Costco yesterday-it definetely caught my eye! :)
ReplyDeleteMarg, exactly! I love how clean it is. I think I could more easily hand this copy around to a variety of people, you know?
ReplyDeleteAllison, I know. It feels like an indulgence, but I think I'll need to get a second copy as well. But when it's of a book I'm so fond of and will reread many times, I don't feel so bad. ;)
Holly, isn't it great?
Sandy, ooh. Must check mine.
I wish the copy that I bought had that cover because it's so eyecatching and it doesn't exactly scream romance novel.
ReplyDeleteYep, awesome cover - and the book deserves it, read BET ME a few months back and absolutely LOVED it.
ReplyDeleteApril, I know. That's why I love it, too. That way new readers won't be influenced one way or the other and will give it a fair chance.
ReplyDeleteErin, it really does deserve it. I'm so glad you loved it, too. I have such fond feelings for it.
Love. I recently bought the earlier version cause I was dying for a reread but this one is just perfect. I might end up with both now :)
ReplyDeleteReally unrelated, but I just finished STOLEN by Lucy Christopher and I couldn't remember which book blog had recommended it... I thought it was you but I searched your blog and it doesn't seem as if you have read it. It is YA and haunting and beautiful!
ReplyDeleteoh my gosh, I LOVE THIS COVER!! I have never heard about this book before now and I just read the synopsis and holy hotness i want it!
ReplyDeleteI just had to come back and tell you (so that you can laugh at me) that I did end up buying this edition :) haha. I got the trade of Fast Women too...another of the Crusies I love even though I know not as many people love it.
ReplyDeleteMichelle, I know I'm going to. May have to order it, though. Can't find this edition around these parts.
ReplyDeleteEmily, I actually got STOLEN for my birthday a few days ago. Can't wait to start it! Thanks for letting me know you loved it.
Carla, woman. You must read this now. You will love.
Allison, haha! Awesome. You know, I'm not sure if I've read FAST WOMEN or not. I don't think I have. May need to pick it up since you love it.
It's gorgeous! I would really love to have those dices ..
