Shadowy Pretties

I would seriously shelve these three together just for how pretty they look side by side. And I'd do it in this order so as to be able to admire the light as it moves into darkness. I have only read one of these authors before, but I look forward to checking out all three. Two historical fantasies and one young adult fantasy, this summer is looking better and better.

The Firebird by Susanna Kearsley
I am a huge fan of The Winter Sea, and so it is with great pleasure that I anticipate this sequel of sorts. The matching covers will also look so nice together (that's right, I really am that shallow). Kearsley is the best when it comes to time traveling historical fantasies (and, really, when does it not?) I have implicit faith in her and in this adventure that spans the courts of Jacobite Scotland and Czarist Russia.
Due out June 4th

Indelible by Dawn Metcalf
How about that cover? I mean, really. Well done, Harlequin Teen. This sophomore novel from Ms. Metcalf is set in the world of the Twixt and looks to be the first in a trilogy and/or series. It's a bit hard to tell from the blurb, but it seems there will be monsters, glowing girls, boys who try to cut out your eye, and other such and sundry. I await good things.
Due out July 30th

Delia's Shadow by Jaime Lee Moyer
Set in San Francisco in the years after the Great Quake, this dark fantasy follows a young woman who walks with ghosts. Having fled the bay and too many memories, she is called back by a spirit in need of rest. This one sounds part paranormal, part mystery and I am very interested in getting to know it better.
Due out September 17th

  2. The cover for Indelible reminds me of the feel of Sarah Cross' Kill Me Softly - they don't look alike, but the menacing rose promising fairy tales subverted thing is a sense I get from both covers. I'll be on the lookout for reviews of this one... sounds creepy & wonderful.

    1. Interesting, I hadn't made that connection. But you're right. The threatening rose and all. I really love this cover. I so hope the insides match (or exceed) the out.

And, yeah, while the cover is lovely, it's the story behind DELIA'S SHADOW that really has me interested.

  6. Oh, I especially like that cover for Indelible. I like how it's a little vague what, exactly, it is, and how it's portrayed. It makes *possibilities* possible.

Linger by Maggie Stiefvater, Review + Giveaway!

It seems a long time ago now that I first read Shiver -- the first book in the Wolves of Mercy Falls trilogy. But looking back I started it on the plane ride to BEA and finished it there in the conference center, fingers gripping the cover tightly, while sitting on the floor in one of the many autograph lines. And now it's May again and BEA is right around the corner and I emerge from my recent and nasty reading slump stupor to find a copy of Linger sitting in my mailbox like a glove thrown down in the dirt. "I will be the one to pull you out," it whispers to me slyly. "Just open me up and take a sip. I promise--one sip is all it will take." And I look at it with fear and longing written all over my face. "You promise?" I ask  intently. "Because it's been a long walk in the cold and I'm not sure I can take another disappointment." "Just open me up," it says, confidence written all over its cover. And so I do. And everythin

Interview with Diana Peterfreund + Rampant Giveaway!

Ever since I fell in love with Diana Peterfreund 's Secret Society Girl series last year, I've been hoping I'd get the chance to interview her here. Tomorrow marks the release of her new novel, Rampant , and let me tell you that you have not read a book like this before. You can read my review here , but all you really need to know is that it's a story about killer unicorns and the young women who hunt them. You want to read it now, don't you? Oh, yeah, and it's YA and the first in a series! To celebrate the release, Diana graciously answered a few of my most burning questions. As she is always a delight, I know you'll enjoy them as much as I did. First things first: When did the idea for Rampant first hit you and what (if anything) did you know right off the bat? In early 2005, just after selling Secret Society Girl , I had this dream of being chased by a very dangerous unicorn. I woke up and went to go look it up to see if I could figure out the meanin
