Restore Me Excerpt + Thoughts

So we haven't talked about the three new Shatter Me books that we are getting from the lovely Tahereh Mafi yet, have we? I've been remiss. I know. I mean, I'm pretty sure you could have guessed that I'm positively delighted by the prospect. I was one of the ones happy with how and where she left things in  Ignite Me . I know others were not. Which is why I think it's no small task Ms. Mafi has set herself in returning to this world and picking up the threads of her tale. But I'm along for the ride. That was never really even a question. The first book is titled Restore Me and is due out next month! The sixth, to be exact. I do love this whiteout version of the set of covers we've got going for the series. Actually, it might be my favorite cover thus far. But my question for you today is have you read the first four chapters excerpt they released yet? I wasn't planning on it, opting to just sort of ride out my gentle anticipation until release day....

Snippets

I have become a big fan of snippets. Well, of Ilona Andrews ' snippets particularly. Every so often she and/or Gordon relents and placates the fans by posting a tiny little bit of a piece of a story headed our way sometime in the not-too-distant future. My favorites of these are (for obvious reasons) the Curran-based snippets from the upcoming Kate Daniels book, in this case-- Magic Bleeds. But the very best is when Gordon writes a well-known scene from one of the previous books from Curran's POV . That's when the magic happens, people. My very favorite is the soup scene: Part I and Part II . Enjoy. Juliet Marillier 's website has a brand new design worth exploring and she has also posted the first chapter of Heart's Blood . Set in western Ireland during the 12th century this is a standalone novel that is very loosely based on the Beauty and the Beast fairy tale. It is my most anticipated book of the fall and so I couldn't resist the lure of the first cha...

Mr. Brisbane, the Book Seer, & an Excerpt

Deanna Raybourn posted a link to a fan's artistic rendition of her character --Mr. Nicholas Brisbane. As I know a few of you are admirers of Mr. Brisbane, I thought I'd post the link. Perhaps it'll help tide you over till the 4th Lady Julia Grey novel. He's really quite lovely. Scar and all. I recently ran across this rather whimsical site called The Book Seer . You enter the book you just read (along with the author) and it generates a series of books recommendations for you. They seem to be drawn from Amazon , LibraryThing , and BookArmy . This might not prove excessively useful but it's good for a spot of fun and some messing around. I keep a long list of upcoming books I'm looking forward to and Rosemary and Rue by Seanan McGuire was a fairly recent addition. Rosemary and Rue is the first in a new urban fantasy series and it looks thoroughly promising. To get a taste of what's to come go read this excerpt Ms. McGuire has posted on her site.

Summer Blog Blast Tour, an Interview, and an Excerpt

Chasing Ray has the Summer Blog Blast Tour dates up. These wonderful folks put the tour on every year and it's always a fest o' awesome. This year they've got a great lineup and I'll definitely be dropping in to catch Carrie Jones today at Writing and Ruminating , Maggie Stiefvater also there on Wednesday, and Kristin Cashore at HipWriterMama on Friday. Rumor is...there'll be a Graceling giveaway! In case by some freak chance you are not already a regular follower of the sneaky and cheeky Book Smugglers , you should rectify that problem. Harry over at Temple Library Reviews is interviewing Ana and Thea this week and it would be a perfect way to get to know them. Read Part I of the interview and then continue right on to Part II . There was a high-pitched shriek heard round the 'Ville when I stumbled across the first chapter of Heroes at Risk , which Moira J. Moore has posted on her livejournal. If you're having a hard time holding out till August ...

The First Third Damar Novel

Robin McKinley was rummaging around and came across the 300-page hard copy of what she terms " the First Third Damar Novel ." Code name KIRITH. She's put the first chapter of it up on her blog . Ah, her stories always draw me in from the first page...

Because I have no self control...

...when it comes to Lady Julia and Brisbane.  Barnes & Noble has put up an excerpt from Deanna Raybourn 's upcoming Silent on the Moor and I settled in to read it without batting an eye. The book's not due out for a month but who are we kidding? I'll take what I can get. And what I got was excellent . Enjoy .

An Excerpt, a Cover, and Some Awards

First, for fans of the Hero series, Moira J. Moore has posted the matching scene from the first book, Resenting the Hero , written from Taro's perspective instead of Lee's. And it's awesome. Only 8 months left till the fourth book comes out! Next, here is the cover for the second Alpha and Omega novel, Hunting Ground , by Patricia Briggs . (Thanks Renee  for the heads up!) Lastly,  Urban Fantasy Land is holding their Reader's Choice Awards right now. If you go vote and spread the word about the awards, you'll be entered in a contest to win a $25 gift card from a major online bookseller. Go have your say !

A Couple of Firsts and an Interview

Patricia Briggs has the first chapter of Bone Crossed up on her site. You know you can't resist.  Charlaine Harris has the first chapter of Dead and Gone up on her site. Word is the weres come out to play in this one.  And Word Wenches has an interview with Sharon Shinn up on their site. In it she mentions toying with the idea of writing a novella about Kirra and Donnal as well as possibly following the next generation in the Twelve Houses world.  One word: yay!

Chalice Sneak Peek

Robin McKinley has posted a sneak peek at the first chapter of Chalice over at her blog . And it's a nice, juicy peek. Enjoy here.
