Stepback Art Reveal | Scarlet by Marissa Meyer

Now this one is truly exciting. I'm excited today to be part of the stepback art reveal for the brand new paperback release of Scarlet by  Marissa Meyer ! Given my choice, I knew I had to pick Scarlet & Wolf's book, as it is easily my favorite novel in the  Lunar Chronicles . And let me tell you, Macmillan has done such a fabulous job with these new covers . Happily, all four paperbacks release on February 4th, and I can't wait to get my copies. I can see Aaron's expression now. But honestly, at this point he's made his peace with my multiple-edition collecting habits. As he told me today, he knew what I was when he picked me up. Likewise, love. And here is the stepback (which just happens to depict one of my favorite scenes in the book): She did not know that the wolf was a wicked sort of animal, and she was not afraid of him. And in case you haven't seen them yet, here are the four new covers:  Aren't they gorgeous? Have you read this s...

Review | Winter by Marissa Meyer

It's funny, the timing of books. It's so funny. I've been sitting on Winter for around about a year now. And it's been well over two since I reviewed Cress . You'll remember, I was not what you might call a "fan" of that book, which partly explains why I waited so dashed long to start Winter . It's just that I was such a genuine fan of the first two books. Scarlet is perfect, in my opinion. And as I was most displeased with Wolf and Scarlet's treatment in Cress (to say nothing of the, shall we call it "phoning in" of Cress and Thorne's characters), well. I had issues, guys. I had issues. But something continued to niggle in the back of my mind that Winter would be different. A return to form, possibly. A casting out of new lines, so to speak. Whatever it was, the Winter kairos all came together for me a week ago, and I basically whipped my way through the fourth installment in the Lunar Chronicles. Ahem. Spoilers for the first ...

Cress Cover

Today,  USA Today revealed  the cover of Marissa Meyer 's third novel Cress . The third installment in the Lunar Chronicles series, this one follows the mysterious girl we met near the end of Cinder and is (as expected) a retelling of Rapunzel . I have become a bigger fan of Meyer's scifi retellings with each entry. Given my unreserved love for Scarlet , I am fairly champing at the bit to get my hands on Cress . A computer hacker trapped in an orbiting satellite? Brilliant. Coverwise, I really do love the whole theme Feiwel & Friends has going on with this series. While Cinder' s cover   remains my favorite (nothing beats a cyborg leg in a red slipper), I get a little thrill from each one. Which cover is your favorite?

Scarlet by Marissa Meyer

All right. I've officially waited as long as I could. The thing is--you need to know about this book. This sequel. Because it's coming in less than two months and I want you to be ready and not sitting around, twiddling your thumbs, wondering whether or not it'll be worth your time. Hint: it is so beyond worth your time. For those of you wondering,  Scarlet   is the sequel to Cinder , the first book in Marissa Meyer's Lunar Chronicles. Each installment is also its own fairy tale retelling. First we had Cinderella, now Little Red Riding Hood, with Rapunzel and Snow White yet to come. Ask me how much I love quartets? Go on. Ask me! But I'll be honest. At first I was skeptical with the fairy tale hopping and the completely new protagonists taking up valuable page time with no resolution in sight. I was a bit not okay with where  Cinder   left off, but the early word on Meyer's take on Little Red Riding Hood was extremely good. And, really, how long have you been...

Scarlet Cover

Despite being underwhelmed by Cinder 's ending (or utter lack thereof), I am interested to see where Marissa Meyer goes with Scarlet --the next installment in the Lunar Chronicles. It's hard for me to stay away from some good young adult scifi. Pair that with a fairy tale retelling (this time Little Red Riding Hood), and I'm gonna be picking up that book. I mean, the character of Wolf is a street fighter. How cool is that?! This cover is also sort of delightful. I love how it matches the cover of Cinder , and I love the font, swirling cape, smoke, etc. The skinny arm is creeping me out a little bit, but all in all I'm excited to read this sequel. Scarlet is due out February 5th.

Cinder Audiobook Giveaway Winner!

And the winner is . . . Sarah (Escaping Through Books) ! Congratulations! Sarah's favorite fairy tale has always been Sleeping Beauty. That was definitely a favorite of those who entered the giveaway, including a shout-out for Spindle's End --my favorite version of it. More favorites included Cinderella (appropriately), The Twelve Dancing Princesses, Beauty and the Beast, and The Little Mermaid. And one mention of The Seven Swans--a personal favorite of mine. So if you could send me your contact info, Sarah, we'll be happy to get your package on its way. Thanks to Macmillan Audio for hosting the giveaway and to all of you for stopping in and sharing your favorites!

Cinder by Marissa Meyer

This cover. This cover is in the running for my favorite cover of the coming year! I love it that much. And I love the title. And, even more than both of those put together, I love the premise of a sci-fi/cyberpunk retelling of Cinderella with a cyborg as the main character. You should have seen my face when I first found out about Cinder . It's like Marissa Meyer asked me for my list of all that is good and then slapped them together into this book. Add to that the fact that it's the first in a quartet (oh, how I love quartets, see this one , and this one , oh, and this one over here ), and the name of the series is the Lunar Chronicles. I don't know . . . it kind of seemed like this book and I were a match made in heaven. I've been reading sci-fi for as long as I can remember, and I feel like we don't get enough of it these days in young adult fiction. So I would have been on board for that aspect of the book alone. But a sci-fi/fairy tale mashup? Fuggedabout i...
